Review
A nice twist of the classic Sherlock Holmes story. Sherlock Holmes, Watson and Moriarty really existed and they had children and grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren. Charlotte Holmes is really similar to her ancestor. It seems that the personality qualities are genetic, unfortunately even their vices and addictions.
Charlotte Holmes and Jamie Watson end up at the same boarding school. Coincidence? There are no such things as coincidences!
I like that it’s written from Watson’s point of view, keeping it similar from the originals stories. (If I remember correctly weren’t the Sherlock’s cases written by Watson?) even though at the beginning he seemed a little bit obsessed with Charlotte or at least the idea of her.
Then the mystery begins. A murder happens and someone is trying to frame the duo. So here it all starts: the deduction, the working together (well mostly), finding clues, especially why the incidents are based on the old stories from their ancestors. Who is behind it? One or more people?
All this while dealing with the everyday teenagers issues. Especially Watson that has divorced parents and he has to rebuild his relationship with his estranged father who got remarried and has other kids. Charlotte has problems with her family and with her addiction with drugs. But the two can lean on each other. There’s a bit of romance but I really hope the two remain friends and partners in crime… more resolving crimes.
In conclusion great writing, the story was good and I loved the characters. I really look forward to reading the second book and found more about the Moriarties.
